LIYA is a Bulgarian-born recording artist and songwriter, currently based in Boston, MA. Surrounded by a musical family, LIYA began her career early on and fostered her talents extensively, while studying Songwriting, Performance and Music Business at Berklee College of Music.
After independently releasing her original music, LIYA took the New England and Bulgarian music scenes by storm, appearing in multiple venues and media outlets, such as Sofar Sounds, Chelsea Night Market, The Foundation Room of House of Blues, Bulgarian National Television, Boston Radio Stations, and many more. And performing all over New England, Bulgaria, as well as New York City and Philadelphia. LIYA’s captivating stage presence, quirky personality and powerful vocals, combined honest lyrics and catchy melodies make for a must-see spectacle.
She released her debut single and music video to “Superpower” in 2017 and followed it with her debut EP Past Lives in 2018. In 2019 she released the singles “ART”, “UNBOUND” and “Carnival”. In early 2020 she released a self-directed music video to the song ‘Never Ending Night’ from the ‘Past Lives’ album.
The latest effort, ‘Mother Medusa’, produces dark but honest lyricism by portraying women’s struggles through imagery drawn from Greek mythology, where Medusa, widely known as a monstrous creature, is now a synonym for female power. LIYA and ABRAM have successfully mixed this lyrical idea with sleek production, creating a dark-pop feel with beats so infectious, it makes the listener want more.
